Vitamin D for dizziness

Scientists from Medicine College of Seoul National University have found that taking vitamin D and calcium twice daily may reduce the likelihood of vertigo attacks in people predisposed to such condition. This is characterized as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. The study involved 957 people with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. The participants were divided into stratification (445) and control (512) groups.

The study has found that the patients who took vitamin D and calcium supplements had an average recurrence rate of 0.83 per person a year, compared to 1.10 per person a year in the placebo group. Based on the data, we can conclude that the combination of vitamin D and calcium reduced the annual vertigo recurrence rate by 24%. This effect is most pronounced in people with initially low blood levels of vitamin D. In summary, vitamin D and calcium supplements can be an effective prevention method for people with recurrent episodes of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.
