At the World Diabetes Congress, which took place on December 5-8, 2022 in Lisbon (Portugal), the Ukrainian Diabetes Federation, in partnership with the Ukrainian IT startup CheckEye, presented a new diagnostic technology using artificial intelligence.
The event is hosted by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), which brings together 230 diabetes organizations from 130 countries and it is the main global platform dedicated to topical issues in the treatment of diabetes.
CheckEye is a Ukrainian IT startup that uses the artificial intelligence to detect diabetic retinopathy in the early stages by means of photographic fundus images.Photos can be taken anywhere (from optical stores to pharmacies) by non-medical personnel for further uploading to the system for diagnosis.
According to the results of the survey of the first 200 patients, the accuracy of the diagnosis using CheckEye artificial intelligence is 92% and 82%, respectively, and the waiting time is 1 hour.
An innovative approach in the field of diagnostics is already available in Ukraine. The CheckEye team in partnership with the Ukrainian Diabetes Federation and Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapyhas arranged a free screening for people with diabetes in the Chernivtsi region. The screening began in October 2022 and it is still ongoing.
