Scientists have managed to determine the cause of constant miscarriages

Spontaneous abortion can occur one by one at each pregnancy but doctors do not reveal any disturbances of reproductive function at these women. But the British researchers have managed to establish the cause of this phenomenon.

Approximately 1% of pregnant women have so-called habitual abortion – some spontaneous abortion in a row.

There are many hypotheses concerning the reasons of this sad phenomenon which deprives women from the joy of motherhood. The scientists from university of Warwick (Warwick University) assert that usual loss of pregnancy as physicians call this pathology, is connected with a deficiency of stem cells of endometrium.

The scientists from Warwick have investigated endometria tissue samples of uterus mucous membrane which covers this organ from inside. These tissue samples have been obtained from 183 patients who asked for medical care in university clinic concerning abortions.

Every researched patient had no less than 3 spontaneous abortions earlier.

Researchers have found almost total absence of special kind of stem cells practically in all samples. Meanwhile, such cells were available in quantum satis in the samples obtained from women of control group who had already delivered at least 2 children.

Authors of this discovery offer a method for its practical use. Firstly, the analysis of sample of endometria mucous which had been carried out before pregnancy, allows to reveal women who belong to the group of risk. Such women during their pregnancy should be observed carefully by a doctor.

Secondly, scientists from Warwick offer also a method which will allow to significantly improve the chances of women from the group of risk for a successful gestation.

For this purpose before the planned conception, a procedure of scarification of endometria should be carried out. Intended insignificant injury of mucous uterus will cause specific reaction of organism and will lead to increase a quantity of stem cells in endometria.

The similar method has already applied in some clinics of reproductive medicine in theIVF procedure – it improves the chances of successful attachment of fertilized ovum to uterus wall.
