A new drug approved for hormonal therapy

The American regulator has used long-acting corticotropin injections in the treatment of some chronic autoimmune diseases. In addition to the previously approved urinary problems associated with sarcoidosis, nephrotic syndrome and collagenopathy, the list of indications of Purified Cortrophin Gel includes episodes of exacerbation of multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Purified Cortrophin Gel is a prescription intramuscular and subcutaneous drug manufactured by ANI Pharmaceuticals. Studies have previously shown that injections of adrenocorticotropic hormone promoted recovery from MS exacerbation; as a result the chances of improvement during the first 5 weeks of treatment for relapse increase. A full-scale launch of the product is scheduled for the beginning of the first quarter of 2022.
